Yes it’s December - again!
The end of the year is a good time to take stock I suppose, but it used to get me all worked up because of the review of the year, and awareness that I hadn’t met all my goals (who does?) and objectives, and now I was about to start new ones without the old ones complete. So guilt, feelings of failure, and a looming Christmas to-do list, would sweep over me and get me a bit heavy through what is arguably the best time of the year.
It’s the best time of the year not because of all the spending and commercialism etc., but because of a pretty long run up to focus on Jesus and what is commonly known as the spirit of Christmas. Even those who do not have a love for Christ, or even a fleeting acknowledgment of who he is are influenced to some degree by the atmosphere of what God is like all year long, but seen really clearly in the arrival of his son as a baby on the earth.
God gave a remarkable gift to us from his heart and from the womb of Mary.
I just became a grandad and marvel again like I did when my kids were born, at the awesomeness of a baby in its perfection in such a tiny vulnerable bundle. All of their potential is shrink-wrapped in their little body. And I do mean shrink-wrapped. They are a miniaturized package with all sorts of gifts, talents, and abilities all waiting to be maximized as they grow.
That all starts in the womb.
Jesus started in the womb, The Almighty becoming a baby on earth and certain of a nasty end. And yet when Jesus finally ended in ignominious fashion, and was buried in a tomb it wasn’t the end, but a beginning. That tomb was actually another womb.
Jesus had two wombs from which he touched down on planet earth.
One was Mary, and the other was the tomb in the garden near Golgotha. That tomb is not remembered for the sad, pathetic ending of a nomadic preacher who lost all his followers at the end and was humiliated in front of his few remaining friends and his mother, on a cross. That tomb is known as the womb of eternal life for all of mankind, the womb from where our greatest fear and enemy -death- was utterly vanquished.
Something immense and unrivaled was born from that tomb/womb. A new heavenly life and eternal connection to God Almighty for whoever wants it. NOW!
Your life as you review it in December may not have been anything fancy this year. It may even have been horrible. It may have a lot of dead bones in it. It may have failures, embarrassment, grief, loss, and even stupidity that makes you feel the weight of loss, and that your life or parts of it belong in a tomb of death, to be forgotten and buried forever.
Remember in the story of Jesus that the celebration of his birth as a baby is amazing but it is inextricably connected to his re-birth (if you can call it that) from the tomb. The other womb, from which comes your potential, your success, your destiny, your purpose, your hope, your joy, and much more than you ever imagined you could be.
He converted his own tomb and will convert yours,
into a womb, to birth new eternal gifts for you at Christmas!
Reach out to connect with Jesus! Not the baby but The tomb raider!
